Plato Gold completes sale of 24 Harker Garrison claims to Northern Gold

Plato Gold (CVE:PGC) said Tuesday it has completed the sale of its 24 Harker Garrison claims in northern Ontario to Northern Gold Mining (CVE:NGM), as announced in late May.

“I am very pleased to have completed this deal with Northern Gold,” said Anthony J. Cohen, president and CEO of Plato Gold Corp.

“Together with our recent option agreements with St. Andrews Goldfields and Threegold Resources, we are participating in many top quality gold projects with other leading companies, as well as growing our own high potential gold developments.”

The 24 claims were sold for a cash payment of ,000, as well as 175,000 common shares of Northern Gold. The agreement is also subject to an underlying 2% gross metals return royalty on all metals produced from the property, and is held by Geoconseils Jack Stoch Ltee.

Plato Gold is a Canadian gold exploration company with exploration projects in northern Ontario and Quebec, in addition to its Lolita property in the province of Santa Cruz, Argentina.

Last November, Plato signed a deal giving St Andrew Goldfields (TSE:SAS) the option to earn a 75% stake in four of its five northern Ontario properties, as well as a similar agreement with Threegold for two of its seven northern Quebec assets.

Nyota Minerals chairman buys 410,000 shares in company

Nyota Minerals Ltd (LON:NYO, ASX:NYO) said executive chairman Melissa Sturgess bought 410,000 shares in the company at an average price of 11.99 pence each. |

Sturgess now has a beneficial interest in 9,429,855 Nyota shares, representing 1.98 percent of the issued capital, and holds 3.5 million Nyota options.

Last month the company found multiple new gold targets on its northern licences in Ethiopia, around 100 kilometres away from its flagship Tulu Kapi mine development project.

These targets were initially picked out from airborne geophysics data and were subsequently confirmed through a substantial reconnaissance field programm. Nyota said it has confirmed the presence of gold mineralisation, and base metals, in a large number of heavy mineral concentrate samples.

Sturgess emphasised in May Nyota’s ‘twin focus’ which is still set on building the Tulu Kapi production profile and exploring the group’s other licence areas to provide the medium and long-term growth potential.

Mountain Lake announces discovery of new gold lens at Leprechaun

Mountain Lake Resources (CVE:MOA) and joint venture partner Marathon Gold Corp (TSE:MOZ) announced Wednesday the discovery of a major gold mineralized lens along the northeast edge of the Leprechaun gold deposit, part of the Valentine Lake property in central Newfoundland.

The wide lens of gold mineralization was found in drill hole VL-11-246 in the main zone of the deposit. The hole intersected 3.75 g/t gold over 37.5 metres, including 18.81 g/t gold over 4.5 metres, as well as narrow, high grade zones of 67.15 g/t gold over 1.1 metre and 36.69 g/t gold over 0.5 metres.

“The discovery of this wide zone of high grade gold mineralization in VL-11-246 is exciting as it represents the potential to expand the northeast boundary of the Leprechaun Gold deposit and pushes the margins of the potential open pit both down dip and into the hanging wall zone,” said Marathon’s vice president of exploration, Sherry Dunsworth.

Marathon, the operator of the project, also said that significant gold mineralization was intersected in step out drill hole VL-11-248 along the footwall sediment zone in the central part of the Leprechaun deposit. The footwall intercepts in VL-11-248 graded 1.22 g/t Au over 11.7m, including 2.77 g/t Au over 3.6m with up to 5.01 g/t Au over 0.9m.

Meanwhile, exploratory drill results from the Valentine East deposit were encouraging, with hole VE-11-02 intersecting 1.08 g/t gold over 2 metres, 0.69 g/t gold over 5 metres with 1.03 g/t gold over 2 metres, and 0.98 g/t gold over 15 metres with 4.23 g/t over 3 metres.

The remainder of Marathon’s winter drill program will include in-fill and step out drilling at the Leprechaun deposit in the northeast, as well as more exploration drilling at Valentine East.

Marathon earned a 50% stake in the Valentine Lake project by spending a total of million on exploration expenditures, and by funding another million in payments owed by Mountain Lake. Both Marathon and Mountain Lake, under their 50/50 joint venture, have agreed to equally fund a million exploration budget for the project for 2011.

Swiss Visitor Wins TAT’s “Most Amazing Moment” Photography Campaign Award

Swiss Visitor Wins TAT's "Most Amazing Moment" Photography Campaign Award

The winner receives US,000 cash award and to be a part of a flim ‘Hearing The Sunshine’, inspired by the incredibly winning story.

Bangkok (PRWEB) June 27, 2011

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced the winner of “The Most Amazing Moment”, Mr Marco Steuri (Fribu) from Switzerland, for his submission entitled “From the North to the South of Thailand”. He will receive a ,000 cash award and TAT certificate.

His submission was a rich montage of superb photographs that documented his journey from the northern to the southern provinces of Thailand, covering all the campaign’s criteria; such as, tourism destinations, culture, traditions, Thai food and Thai hospitality. To view the winning submission, please click http://www.mostamazingshow.com/#/album/350.

The “Most Amazing Moment” campaign is part of a wider campaign called “The Most Amazing Show on Earth”, that invites past visitors to share their stories of Thailand for a chance to win a cash prize and to be apart of a film.

The PR Most Amazing Show on Earth” microsite campaign aims to 1) encourage and promote both first-time and repeat visitors to Thailand, 2) create awareness about Thailand’s tourism destinations, cultures, traditions and hospitality, 3) pull international tourists to this microsite as well as http://www.tourismthailand.org as the primary sources of tourism information about visiting Thailand.

The TAT sought submissions for the “Most Amazing Moment” from anyone who has visited Thailand in the form of unique stories of photo essays. By logging on to http://www.mostamazingshow.com, users could upload their photos or sync it to an album on Facebook, mark the regions/provinces to map out their journeys, add descriptions, and share their story with other via social media.

These moments have been collected and displayed on the “The Most Amazing Show On Earth,” website which can be browsed by visitors from all over the world.

In the second phase, TAT developed a film inspired by the submissions. The film is divided into short episodes to be broadcast online, with each episode featuring different regions and provinces in Thailand and a sample of the experience they can offer.

The film, “Hearing the Sunshine By Amazing Thailand”, is based on the collective experiences of two real travellers, a sound artist and a photographer, each of whom have their own unique ways of interacting with and interpreting the world around them.

The film follows each of them on their separate journeys through Thailand to their intersections featuring different regions and provinces in the country, which allow them to share amazing moments together as their relationship develops.

The film notably departs from past communication aimed at an international market and offers a new way to discover the myriad of experiences Thailand can offer in a more emotional and personal way. By having real stories narrated by past visitors, the TAT hopes to be able to give prospective visitors a diverse and realistic portrait of tourism of the whole country through visitors’ eyes rather than an organisation’s.

Set to premiere at http://www.mostamazingshow.com, the film is divided into seven episodes, so viewers from all over the world can tune in for the experience and watch “Hearing the Sunshine” and experience a beautiful story amidst amazing moments in Thailand at the aforementioned website or http://www.tourismthailand.org/amazingshow

In addition to watching the film, viewers will also have an opportunity to interact with it by tagging gifts related to each episode at the end of each episode in order to enter a sweepstake for the gift, win it, and have it mailed to the viewer’s mailing address. To be eligible, contestants must have visited Thailand prior to entering the contest.

Quantum urges U.S. to stockpile rare earths in light of China’s restrictions

In a statement on Friday, Quantum Rare Earth Developments (CVE:QRE) urged U.S. President Barack Obama to “counter China’s actions” and set up a stockpile of rare earth materials, which are used in a number of advanced technologies from industrial magnets, to mobile phones and batteries.

“China’s activities go far beyond a wake-up alarm. The time to act is now,” said CEO Peter Dickie, in reference to China’s recent restrictions in the rare earths mining sector.

The country, which accounts for 97% of global rare earth production, recently announced a 93,800 tonne limit on total rare earth output from the country, and a or per tonne tax increase, depending on whether the rare earth materials are considered ‘light’ or ‘heavy’.

Light and heavy rare earths are differentiated according to their atomic weight, with heavy rare earths, such as Terbium, Thulium and Ytterbium, beng more valuable.

China said the tax hike is in an attempt to limit over-expansion in the rare earth mining industry, as well as protect the environment from mining damage.

“The combination of a crackdown on mining activities in China and that country’s own stockpiling are causing chaos in markets for rare earths, which are vital to high-tech industries,” Dickie added.

Currently, Quantum is drilling at its Elk Creek property in Nebraska to determine the extent of niobium, a steel hardener used in super-alloys for aerospace and defense technologies, and rare earth elements at the site. At the property, hole EC-93 returned 155.5 metres of 2.7% total rare earth oxides (TREO), including 54.9 metres of 3.3% TREO.

Quantum, whose stock on the TSX-Venture Exchange closed at .27 per share on Thursday, strongly supports the provision in the fiscal 2012 U.S. defense authorization bill, which will instruct the Department of Defense to prepare a rare earth materials inventory and supply source.
